This page addresses general questions in
connection with our services. While we have attempted to answer
most common questions, the best questions come from our visitors.
If you have question that you'd like to see included on this
page, send an email to lisascott@scottimmigration.com.
When do I need an immigration lawyer, and how do I
find the right lawyer for my particular situation?
The answer is not a simple one and depends on your personal
circumstances. I strongly suggest that you make initial contact
with a lawyer as soon as you can.
When can I find general information about immigration
law?
This web site is a good starting place. For more detailed
information, we have assembled a list of government resources,
accessible by clicking on the "Information" link
in the menu.
Do you charge a consultation fee?
Since we use this session to discuss your situation and sketch
out some possible approaches to meeting your goals, we do
charge a fee.
If your office is located in Chicago, how are you
able to meet the immigration needs of those located in other
geographic locations?
Thanks to the Internet, we now live in what might be termed
as a "Global Village". While borders within this
village can still present obstacles to traveling from one
country to another, the Web has given us access to a number
of resources that weren't available just a few years ago.
We work with clients from all over the world, many of whom
we've never met face-to-face. Many documents can be sent via
e-mail or fax and the telephone is always within arm's reach.
How can I find out the status of my case? Where can
I find information from INS?
The USCIS website is a good starting place to check on the
status of a pending application. www.uscis.gov
Does the Scott immigration Law Firm handle issues
related to immigration to Canada?
The Scott immigration Law Firm handles cases from all over
the world, but our practice is limited to U.S. and international
immigration law. We will provide some links to Canadian immigration
information sites in the near future. Feel free to call Lisa
Scott about your immigration needs as she may be able to put
you in contact with someone qualified to assist you.
How can I submit questions to be answered on this
page?
